Flossie Birdwhistle is the Turnkey at London's Highgate Cemetery. As Turnkey, it's Flossie's job to ensure that all the souls buried in the cemetery stay at rest. Not an easy job for a young ghost, but a task made especially difficult by World War II: London is being attacked every night by enemy bombers, and even the dead are unsettled. It's the rumored true story about a vampire that lurked in the Highgate Cemetery in London, England back in and throughout the early seventies. It all started in when dead animals started being found throughout the Cemetery grounds.
Burgh House commissioned me to tell the story of the Highgate Vampire in (link to listen at the bottom) As well as being a local girl, I have a vested interest in north London occult strangeness, read about my family connection to the Hampstead-based exorcist Christopher Neil Smith here.. The first half of the book is gives a well written and detailed history of Highgate cemetery. There is also a number of famous people and some other peoples life stories explored in connection to their wonderful gravestones. I found this book, though outdated now by thirty odd years, interesting and easy to read/5.
